The builder asked us for information about the cooktop vent ducts, so we decided it was time to pick out appliances.

Our kitchen design includes a gas cooktop on the peninsula counter and a double oven, as well as the usual refrigerator, dishwasher and microwave.  Because of the location, the cooktop would have a downdraft vent.  We also knew we wanted a bottom-freezer, French door refrigerator.  We have one now and love it.

The cooktop limited us to a couple of fairly high-end brands.  Fortunately the store was having a special, in which the dishwasher was free if we bought the cooktop, oven and refrigerator of the same brand.  The oven model we chose has two convection ovens and some other nice features.  With all of that, we were still able to keep the cost within our budget.

The salesman gave us copies of all of the spec sheets so we could sleep on it.  The next day I phoned in the deposit and sent the cooktop and oven specs to the builder.
